Since 2017 RIDE Holidays has been working with Te Awakairangi Trust www.takatrust.org.nz

We would like to acknowledge the support of all our clients who allow us to put bikes in schools. Thank you.

Our primary goal is to put bikes in schools, targeting kids that need them the most, providing an opportunity to learn how to ride a bike - something that you and I take for granted.

We are also committed to not just handing over a bike and saying, "Go for it". Recently we set up a maintenance gang to regularly visit the schools we've supported (amongst others) to make sure all the bikes are working properly.

We started fundraising in 2017. Our plan was to supply one low decile school with bikes in 2018. We ended up providing new bikes to both Taita Central Primary and Randwick Primary Schools.

In 2019, we stepped up by supplying bikes to Tui Glen, Naenae, Pomare and Pukeatua Schools. 2020 was a big year (despite Covid) and we supplied bikes to Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ara Whanui in the Hutt, and then provided bikes for no less than 4 more schools - Baird’s Mainfreight in Otara, Natone Park, Cannons Creek in Porirua and Koraunui School in Stokes Valley.

Despite lockdowns and international shipping problems in 2021, we kept the momentum going with bikes going into Glenbrae Primary in Auckland, and Te Kura o Hau Karetu in Upper Hutt-Heretaunga.

2022 was a massive year. Bikes were delivered to Petone Central Primary, Arakura, St Michaels, Epuni and Konini. (all in the Hutt) Jean Batton and Favona schools in Auckland also received bikes. And we also delivered brand new bikes to Tiaho School in Wairoa, Hawkes Bay. That’s 8 schools for 2022.

2023 - Bikes were gifted to schools in Christchurch, Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Tokoroa and Wellington. Each school costs us about $15000.00. We also helped raise (through our climbing for charity project) almost $50000.00 for a bike track and bikes in Rarotonga. Our total fundraising effort for 2023 alone was over $150000.00

2024 and 2025 – Wow, things have grown. We’re now averaging 10 schools a year. From Invercargill through to Whangarei and everywhere in between. The majority of fundraising is via our Climbing for Charity Challenge. Hundreds of cyclists have completed the challenge over the past few years, and this has raised over $500000.00 for kid’s bikes. https://climbingforcharity.co.nz/ We also run charity cycling weekends, dinners and everyone who books a tour with Ride Holidays contributes.

To ensure the new bikes remain in safe working order for the tamariki we also formed a small group of volunteers to visit schools and undertake a bike maintenance program. Not just the schools we’ve supplied bikes to, but any school that needs help.

Thank you for your support. Please donate below or via our Givelaittle page. https://givealittle.co.nz/org/takatrust

Te Awakairangi Access Trust is a registered charity (number CC52630). For this reason it will be the trust that takes payment from you so that you are sent an official receipt and can then take advantage of the tax exemptions (only available to New Zealanders I'm afraid) come the end of the financial year. We promise to make this an easy process.
