Overview of the Tour

Ride Holidays booked our hotel on the same day that the dates were announced. In fact - we were that organised that even the hotels had no idea that the World Championships were heading to the Southern Hemisphere. It's now April 2020 and we're still almost 30 months until kick-off so there are a lot of unknowns. The basic itinerary you see below may change once we see the final event roster.

A couple of things we do know…

1, We've only got room for 25 clients so you will need to be quick. Dingo, Dean and Karl will all be there amongst other staff. (we see this tour as being as important as the 100th TdF in 2013 and also the WW1 100 year Belgium trip in 2018)

2, The initial deposit of $250.00 is non-refundable. However, if you cancel then that $250.00 will be donated to our kids on bikes charity. So, you don't have very much to lose by booking.

3, Yes, there will be a non-riding (Team Mac option) however it would be advisable that any Team Mac considering this trip need to enjoy watching bike racing as the UCI schedule will be a daily watch. Even for Team Mac.

Our hotels..

Sydney - Novotel Sydney Brighton Beach Hotel

The Novotel Sydney Brighton Beach offers premium 4.5 star accommodation, overlooking the beautiful white sandy beaches of Brighton Le Sands and Australia's famous picturesque Botany Bay. The hotel has a spacious and relaxing Sydney beach-side feel, superbly located in the heart of Brighton Le Sands. The resort facilities will not disappoint with an outdoor pool with sun beds, indoor heated pool, tennis court, fully equipped gym and spa, dedicated kids play area and restaurant and bar facilities.

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Sydney International Airport (free shuttle) which is only 7km away. Also, it's on the right side of the city for our bike ride south. We will leave our bike bags at this hotel.

Kiama - Nova Kiama

The brand-new Nova Kiama hotel is a short walking distance to the beach, great cafes, yummy restaurants and an abundance of shops. Even though Kiama is the largest town in the region, it still resembles the late 19th century charm of the historic seaside harbour town it once was. Kiama perfectly combines the appeal of country hospitality with the laidback lifestyle of a coastal town.

We chose Kiama (30km south) rather than the big city of Wollongong because of its proximity to the National Parks which is where we see a lot of the pro cycling happening. Also, smaller towns are more enjoyable and more relaxing than big cities. The coastal ride up to Wollongong is a beautiful 30km so it won't disrupt any plans for us to be at the UCI presentations.

          Wollongong 2022 Tour Itinerary

          Day 1, Tuesday 20 September

          Welcome to Sydney

Feel free to arrive at any stage. Today is purely a case of assembling the bikes and popping out for a short ride prior to our welcome dinner tonight. Our hotel provides free airport transport and is also situated right on Brighton Beach so don't be afraid to arrive early and have an extra night.

          Day 2, Wednesday 21 September

          Game on

Hotel to hotel our ride today is just over 110km. We will have support vehicles close by for latte and cappuccino cyclists. Please keep in mind that you are now on holiday - all you need to think about is eating, sleeping, drinking and riding. We'll take care of everything else.

Historically - it's the Men's Elite Time Trial on a Wednesday. If this is the case today then we will suggest an early start so we can watch the last 3-4 hours. Paddy Bevan was 4th in 2019. He will no doubt be ragging hot favourite by 2022 so will leave the start gates last. Go Paddy.

          Days 3, 4, 5 & 6 Thursday 22 - Sunday 25 September

          Our plan is simple

Over the next 4 days we will ride our bikes as much as possible while fitting in with the UCI events. Ideally, we'd like to see as much racing as possible. (Junior, Under 23 and Elite) Closer to 2022 we will also have a look at option V.I.P viewing for those wanting to get closer to the action.

Our daily bike rides will include all the National Parks in the area as well as country cafes, wineries and breweries. RH is lucky enough to have half a dozen clients who live in Wollongong (and surrounding towns) so we'll know exactly which are the best coffee spots. There will be options of 60, 80 and 100km plus daily.

          Day 7, Monday 26 September

          110km - we'll be fit by now!!

It's time to leave our Kiama paradise and bike the 110km back to Sydney. We imagine there could be thousands of cyclists doing exactly the same thing. Our bags will be in our hotel room by the time we arrive.

This afternoon is all about packing down the bikes and then heading out to a local restaurant for our last dinner together. No doubt that Dingo will say a few words. He's good at talking!!

          Day 8, Tuesday 27 September

          Home James

Our time together finishes after breakfast so feel free to depart on any flight.

Or, spend an extra couple of days in Sydney. We can easily take care of any extra accommodation.

Thank you for joining RH on what will be an amazing trip. We appreciate your loyalty.

Safe travels home. We look forward to seeing you next time,

          Cheers,

          Karl, Dean and Dingo
