DAY 1, 01 September

Welcome to Vietnam

Welcome to Vietnam. You will be met at Saigon airport and transferred to your hotel. Depending upon what time you arrive we will go for a short stroll Saigon walking tour prior to our group welcome dinner tonight. Saigon is a fantastic city and it’s important that you learn very early how to cross the road without getting run over. Simply make sure you follow Diep – your guide. If she makes it – then it’s safe to follow.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

DAY 2, 02 SEPTEMBER

Mekong Delta

You can’t visit this part of the world without seeing the mighty Mekong Delta. We leave Saigon after breakfast and head for My Tho, a town that is situated on the Delta. Upon arrival, board a motorboat and head out on the great river to Xuan Dong Islet. In contrast to many of the overly visited Mekong islands, we choose Xuan Dong as it is quieter, less crowded, and more authentic. We will then spend the full day exploring this wonderful part of the world. Hundreds of thousands of people call the Mekong Delta – home. Arrive back in Saigon late afternoon. Just in time to join Roger Sowry at the bar. Tonight we have tickets for the outstanding A O Show. What a great day

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 3, 03 SEPTEMBER

Up to the Mountains

This morning we pick up where we left off on Sunday and visit the remainder of Saigon’s highlights – the absorbing War Remnants Museum, the Reunification Palace, the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the historic Post Office built by the French. Lunch is at one of Saigon’s most famous restaurants - The Pho2000 where you can experience Vietnam’s national dish, Pho. The restaurant is situated right next to the Ben Thanh Market where you can pretty much buy anything. Just remember that you need to carry it for the next two weeks though. To cut down on long bus transfers we head off to the airport later on this afternoon for a flight to Da Lat. Situated high in the mountains Da Lat is Vietnam’s cycling equivalent of Queenstown. This is where your cycling journey begins. This evening we’ll try out the bikes to make sure they fit. Tomorrow is a big day. Your first day biking in Vietnam.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 4, 04 SEPTEMBER

Hills, Hills and Hills

Good morning Vietnam - a cycling day in paradise. The plan for the cyclists is easy. 80km of sightseeing - by bike. And remember that Da Lat doesn’t have many flat areas. We leave the hotel and ride past the Cam Ly waterfall before passing the Thanh flower village. Before our picnic lunch we ride over the Ta Nung pass which is surrounded by jungle, pine forests and coffee plantations. Our lunch stop is conveniently located near a large waterfall. You’ll be hot so the lycra may get wet. After most of the day on the saddle we’ll stop by the Chicken Village of K’ho on the way home. Roast anyone? Non-Riders - this morning meet your guide at the hotel and spend the day visiting Da Lat’s highlights. First thing we take the cable car up one of the local peaks so you get orientated as well as witnessing the fantastic view below. Don’t forget your camera. We will then visit Tuyen Lam Lake and Truc Lam Zen Monastery, Vietnam’s largest Zen University which has a stunning flower garden. After lunch at a local market we make our way back to the hotel, via the Summer Palace of King Bao Dai, the last Emperor of Vietnam.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

DAY 5, 05 SEPTEMBER

Life is a beach

We leave the cool mountain air today and set off for the coast. As we have a support vehicle in tow you can ride as little or as much as you want. The maximum being 90km. You’ll be cycling on a newly built mountainous highway - offering a fabulous day of riding. Dramatic views, challenging hill climbs and sweeping downhill bends. Eventually you’ll reach the beach of Nha Trang. Vietnam’s most beautiful coastline. White sandy beaches and cold beer, Perfect. You’ll sleep well tonight. Non-Riders - 8.00am depart after breakfast and travel directly to Nha Trang. There’s a fantastic market to be sampled. It’s a bit mad in places as it’s motor bikes friendly. However, there’s plenty of bargains to be had and it’s without doubt one of the best markets in Vietnam.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

DAY 6, 06 SEPTEMBER

Crayfish, togs and sand

BBQ and beach day. After breakfast we launch the bikes for a fabulous ride to Bai Dai beach, a stunning beach 27km south of Nha Trang. The road surface today is really good and it hugs the coastline, offering gorgeous views. Certainly not without challenges though as there are some climbs of 10 degrees and more. We spend the day swimming in clear turquoise waters and feasting on a fantastic barbeque - focusing on the local seafood. Drinks are also included so you will have the choice to ride back to your hotel or not. Non-Riders - you get a bit of a sleep-in before leaving on the same path as the cyclists. Bring your togs, book and sun cream.

Meals Included: Breakfast and BBQ Lunch (inc all drinks)

DAY 7, 07 SEPTEMBER

Fish Pass

We head out of town in the bus to avoid the busy highway until the road diverts to a quieter country road. We launch the bikes just in time for the thrilling ride down Fish Pass. Lunch is at a beachside restaurant before continuing on the picturesque route which hugs the coastline and diverts inland from time to time through country villages. Today you will be greeted with 80km of stunning views and wide, smooth road surfaces. Tonight is spent in the friendly coastal town of Quy Nhon. We’ve booked a restaurant in town for dinner. Non-Riders - We suggest leaving Nha Trang a little later than the cyclists and meeting up with them for lunch. Today we will make sure that we factor in a walk on the way to Quy Nhon. In fact, walks will be offered on most days. You can be as active or as non-active as you like. It’s your holiday.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 8, 08 SEPTEMBER

Shrimps, bridges and 90km

90km of vehicle supported cycling. You will certainly be starting to feel fit by now. A fascinating diverse day. The route passes large lagoons with shrimp farms and fabulously long bridges. The quality of road surface varies from sand strewn, smooth new roads to bumpy and at times in desperate need of repair. After lunch we continue riding past chilli plantations, salt pans, long mountain roads, village laneways and sand dunes. Non-Riders - For the next three days we simply follow the bikes. The route is fantastic and shouldn’t be varied too much otherwise you’ll be missing out. We will have more time though to spend in the little towns we come across and of course we will offer a daily walk for those wanting to stretch the legs.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 9, 09 SEPTEMBER

Country villages and water buffalos

We take the back roads on easy flat roads and cycle to the sobering site of the My Lai Massacre, one of the darkest moments of the Vietnam War, which took place on March 16th, 1968. It was at this site that 504 innocent villagers were massacred and was the pivotal point what started the decline in support of the war by the American public. Back on the road and we cycle past rice fields and through friendly country villages. The roads are mainly flat and can at times be busy with an assortment of traffic, including water buffalo and children on bicycles. Upon arrival at the hotel you may like to enjoy a massage. You will have just covered 90km so you certainly deserve it. Your reward - a very lovely boutique hotel. Different to anywhere else in Vietnam. You could easily be in Europe.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 10, 10 SEPTEMBER

Remote Vietnam

Yesterday was massive so today we’ve factored in only 60kms of cycling. Away from the main highway we travel along a quiet road hugging the coastline and through sand dune landscapes. A very different type of scenery to what we have seen to date. This area is quite remote and doesn’t see many tourists at all. Our adventure continues with a boat trip to the delightful town of Hoi An where we check in to our beachside resort with free time to relax and enjoy the enormous pool.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
