We look forward to showing the best of South Australia to the Kapiti Kruzers.

Overview of the Tour

start and finish at the same hotel in Adelaide. We've found the perfect mix of visiting the iconic Barossa Valley and the world-famous Vintage festival. Followed by the Adelaide Hills before descending upon the city. We focus on the magnificent cycling, sightseeing on offer, as well as eating at the very best South Australian restaurants and cafes. You will come home having experienced the full flavour of what the region has to offer.

This particular 10 day tour has been designed around food, wine and beer first. With cycling 2nd. In saying that we will cater for both latte (70-80km) and cappuccino (40-50km) cyclists daily.

Team Macchiato (complete non-riders) who will have their own guide and separate itinerary. You won't just be watching cyclist legs bobbing up and down. Your mornings will include some walking, boutique shopping, enjoying the local cafes before meeting up with the cyclists in the afternoon.

    Kapiti Kruzers | Tour Itinerary

    Day 1, Wednesday 14 April

    Welcome to South Australia

We look forward to meeting you at Adelaide Airport. Today is purely an arrival day. This afternoon we'll help you assemble the bikes. As well as take delivery of the rental fleet. We'll pop out for a short ride on the local bike path. Purely to get the legs turning and to find those nasty little mechanicals that may pop up.

There will be just enough time for a quiet refreshment prior to our welcoming dinner where we'll run through the plan for the next 10 days. Yes - you are now officially on holiday. Welcome to South Australia.

PS, you are very welcome to arrive the day prior. We will arrange extra accommodation and airport transfers for you.

/ Accommodation: Majestic Roof Garden hotel - Adelaide

    Day 2, Thursday 15 April

    Off to the Barossa Valley

Over the past 7 years we've tried to feature a new South Australian destination on our Santos Tour Down Under trips. The Barossa without doubt is the best and the Kapiti Kruzers deserve the best. This region offers some of the best food & wine in South Australia. And every 2nd year there's a festival to celebrate this and that's why we're here.

So, after breakfast there will be a choice of rides. Latte riders will be encouraged to ride the 80km to the Barossa from our Adelaide hotel. Everyone else will ride halfway and then pile in the vans.

Team Macchiato - consists of the non-riding group. Katrina is your guide and she's Adelaide born and bred. You will be well looked after. You start today with a walking tour of Adelaide. Our aim is to have you arrive in the Barossa at the same time as the cyclists.

    We'll see you at dinner.

    Day 3, 4 & 5 Friday 16 to Sunday 18 April

    Exploring the Barossa Valley

The next three days are all about exploring what the valley has to offer. As well as taking advantage of the Barossa Vintage Festival.

So, mornings will either involve a 40, 80km ride or a nice walk. Afternoons and evenings will target the various festival activities on offer. It's important to note that some Vintage events are free while others require pre-purchased entry. As soon as the schedule is available we will work out the best way of formalising a team plan.

All bike rides will feature the Barossa trail. You will also experience the Whispering Wall as well as Tour Down Under favourite - Menglers hill. A highlight will be our ride through the Seppletsfield wine region. There's about 250km of road to be explored so everyone will be well catered for.

The Barossa Vintage Festival is a celebration unlike any other as the community comes together to showcase and celebrate the Barossa's wine, food, culture and heritage over five days.

Come along and soak up the atmosphere for a day, or stay for the entire Festival, making the most of Barossa's renowned lifestyle. The 2019 Barossa Vintage Festival will long be remembered as a record-breaking Festival with an overwhelmingly positive response from Festival goers and participants. With close to 90 events over five incredible days, the Festival drew one of the largest crowds with many events sold out and record crowds at community driven events.

    Day 6, Monday 19 April

    It's off to the Hills!!

We say goodbye to our Barossa paradise and make our way to Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. Without doubt the best cycling in the State, arguably in all of Australia. We will have plenty of ride options today, from 50 to 90km its up to you.

In previous years we've run an event called the Dirty Dozen. Featuring 12 nasty hills in one day. We've decided to change things slightly for the Kruzers and make it slightly more kruzier… So, it's the Dirty Half Dozen for you guys and you've got 3 days to knock them off.

All 6 hills will feature on your Dirty ½ Dozen t-shirt. Today is your first chance to tag one or two of those hills as we make our way to Hahndorf. Your bags will be in your Hahndorf hotel rooms when you arrive.

We can also pre-book you a massage while in Hahndorf. This afternoon would be a great time to give back to your legs.

Team Macchiato - This morning Katrina has booked the Melbas Chocolate factory followed by lunch at the Bird in Hand winery.

/ Accommodation: The Manna of Hahndorf
/ Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

    Day 7, Tuesday 20 April

    Hahndorf - rest day…

When I showed Waz and JC the original itinerary - they both cried 'rest day'. So, here it is.

Hahndorf is without doubt the best place for a day off the bike. There are hundreds of craft, boutique shops. Think Greytown x 2. There are also numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs.

We will still all eat breakfast and dinner together. And tonight, is traditionally movie night. We show the very famous 'Russian fly fishing' movie followed by a more traditional cycling movie of some description.

So, rest up, spend some money and we'll also arrange massage for those inclined.

Ps, despite what the bosses say - if there's anyone who wants to join Dean for a ride to the local winery then that's where he'll be heading this afternoon. You are very welcome to join him.

/ Accommodation: The Manna of Hahndorf
/ Meals Included: Breakfast & Dinner

    Day 8, Wednesday 21 April

Off to the city we go…

We leave our Adelaide Hills sanctuary and head to the city. Breakfast is at the top of Mt Lofty. (700m above sea level) The big breakfast is unbelievably big, the views are amazing and thousands of cyclists ride this climb daily. Bring your camera.

Ride options vary from 50km to 80kms although only a select few would consider 80km (the Hewson's of this world) in this part of the world. We pretty much spend as much time on the bike as your legs will allow. Little Italy, Corkscrew, Deviation, Norton Summit - all lie in wait.

The 60km ride includes a bit of gravel, (only a local would know) a National Park (Belair) as well as a photo opportunity on Windy Point. There are also a couple of Dirty Dozen hills you can tick off today. One is rather step. You'll be fine…

Team Macchiato - will also meet us at the top of Mount Lofty for breakfast followed by a visit to the Mount Lofty Botanical gardens. And then Belair.

Tonight, we've arranged pasta. Pasta, pasta, pasta. Adelaide's finest Italian is only 50m away from our hotel.

/ Accommodation: Majestic Roof Garden Hotel

    McLaren Vale & D'Arenberg Cube

    Day 9, Thursday 22 April

McLaren Vale including the d'Arenberg Cube

There's a lot to cover off today. Our day starts with breakfast at the iconic Adelaide Market. The team will look after your bikes while you have breakfast.

We'll then hop on our bikes and head towards McLaren Vale via Glenelg Beach. Adelaide's beaches are often overlooked - they're stunning. Just watch out for sharks.

We stop in the Vale for coffee - this is a cycle tour after all. Latte cyclists can carry on towards Willunga Hill which is only 8km away. That will make it a 80km loop.

This afternoon we all visit d'Arenberg Cube which is #1 on trip advisor as well as being the highlight for Team Mac over previous years. It's a must do. Feel free to have a wine or 3 as we won't make you ride back to Adelaide.

It's also our last night on tour so we'll celebrate with a dinner at Adelaide's finest. A floating restaurant on the River Torrens. You won't lose weight on this tour.

/ Accommodation: Majestic Roof Garden Hotel
/ Meals Included: Cube wine-tasting, lunch and Dinner included.

    Day 10, Friday 23 April

    Kapiti is calling…

The tour concludes with breakfast. Some of us will pack our bags, bikes and leave for the airport. Our tour is all but over.

We can easily look after extra accommodation if you choose to stay on. It's a really nice way to round out the holiday.

Thank you for joining us. Safe travels home…
