Day 1, Wednesday 21 November
Villa Maria winery – why wouldn’t you
Welcome to New Zealand. Our 4* hotel (free airport shuttle) is conveniently located only a few minutes from the airport. Ideally we’d like you to arrive by 3pm at the latest.
Today is purely an arrival day however tonight’s wine tasting and dinner at one of New Zealand’s most prestigious wineries is sure to be a trip highlight. Villa Maria is our most awarded winery and only a 2min drive away. We’ll talk through the plan for the next week over a glass of Sav and of course a stunning meal featuring one of our finest sheep. Welcome to the land of the long white cloud.
/ Meals Included: Dinner and wine tasting
Day 2, Thursday 22 November
Welcome to Lake Taupo
It’s a short 3hr drive to Taupo where the rest of the RH team will be waiting. We plan to leave early as today is all about putting your bikes together and then heading out for a decent ride. Time to stretch those legs. Roadies – there will be 2 distances. 40 and 60km targeting quite country roads.
Mounties – you’ll start in Kinloch and ride the W2K track headland loop which offers the best views of the lake. Hopefully we’ll all have time for a pint at a local craft brewery on the way back to our hotel. Tonight we again dine together. You won’t lose any weight on this trip I can promise you. Welcome to Taupo. It’s great to have you here.
/ Meals Included: Breakfast and dinner
Day 3, Friday 23 November
Expo day and some local sights
The plan is to get on the road by 9am as we want to catch the 10am Aratiatia dam release. A must here in Taupo. We’ll cover a gentle 40 to 60 km today. Either by road or by trail. If some want longer then it’s easily arranged. On the way to our café lunch you will stop at the magnificent Huka Falls. A foot bridge right at the top of the falls puts you in a prime position to get up close and witness the frightening display of more than 220,000 litres of water blasting by every second. Our ride concludes at the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge expo where you’ll join over 10000 cycling enthusiasts as they’re either registering for tomorrows ride or taking in the many bargains available in the Sport & Lifestyle Expo. Make sure you check the RIDE Holidays booth. Tonight we head to a local pub who have been instructed to put on a high carb meal. Tomorrow will be awesome. You are in for one fantastic ride…

Join with people from over 20 countries around the Globe and make 2017 your Cycle Challenge year! In its 41st year, this event is superwell organised. Safety is paramount, fun essential and the views, on road and off, are stunning. Come Saturday afternoon – sit back on the grass and take in the entertainment on offer while enjoying a glass of wine. We are all invited to the official V.I.P marquee. You deserve it. Job well done.
Now all you have to do is win the car. Yes, prize giving is like no other – cars, overseas holidays you name it. And you are in to win.

Day 5, Sunday 25 November 2018
BBQ, fishing with Robbie Mac.
What a day we have planned. Our breakfast café is about 30mins ride away. If you want to carry on riding after breakfast then we are more than happy to do so. Maybe a gentle 50km? We will try and avoid the hills today. This afternoon we are happy to show you around the rest of Taupo. Bring your togs as the thermal pools are a must. Or we could go for a small bush walk. No snakes in this part of the world. This evening we’ve booked a private 4 hour cruise on Lake Taupo. Tour de France Green jersey winner - Robbie McEwen will be joining us. We’ll fish on the way. Taupo is well known for having the world’s biggest and angriest trout. It’s not all about the fishing – we’ll pop over to the local Maori carvings and have a BBQ dinner in a secluded bay. And eat up – tomorrow is a full day in the saddle. The ride is epic and one of the best in the whole country.
/ Meals Included: Breakfast and dinner (inc wine and beer)
Day 6, Monday 26 November
100km of Pure 100% New Zealand
Live volcanos, ski fields, country roads, remote lakes – you won’t forget today. We will leave Taupo nice and early as we’ve booked a really nice café for breakfast. In fact – it’s opening just for us. Two of NZ’s best rides on offer today. One via the road and the other via trail. Roadies will end up at the top of Whakapapa ski field. The views are unforgettable. We will have vehicles with us so those who want to ride less can do so. No pressure. Mountain bikers – we ride about 4 hours out to the bridge to nowhere. You won’t forget this ride and you certainly won’t forget the jetboat back to our vehicles. Tonight we share a meal and say cheers to all that we’ve achieved over the last few days – some fantastic cycling, new friends and old, stunning meals and of course some of New Zealand’s best scenery.
/ Meals Included: Breakfast and dinner
